Organisations
involved in production of Braille, Talking or Large print Books for persons who
cannot read normal print created a forum called the DAISY Forum of India (DFI).
This forum was constituted in April 2007. More than 60 organisations from all
over the country are members of this forum.
Objectives
§ Provision in Copyright Law for
exemption for production of accessible material.
§ Use of appropriate technologies to
enhance production and distribution.
§ Adaptation of common formats and
procedures so that, sharing and exchange program could become really available
in such organizations.
§ Development of building of
partnership with Publishers, so those organizations are able to get materials
from the Publisher usable for production of Braille and Talking Books.
§ Skill development amongst the staff
of the organizations.
§ Collaboration in International
Agencies and Organizations such as Daisy Consortium and Talking and Braille
Book Library of other countries.
§ Ensure availability of Braille,
large-print, and talking books in affordable cost to persons with blindness or
low vision in all parts of the country and in all Indian Languages.
§ Create network with public libraries
at state and district level to create sections of Braille and audio books in
existing public libraries.
§ To establish Digital Talking Book
Production Centres in all parts of the country.
§ Establishing online content database
of accessible materials
§ Develop combine catalogue of
accessible materials
§ Develop content preparation
stratigies and task distribution among forum members for production
§ Ensure availability of DAISY player
in affordable cost to all users.
§ Create network of as many
organizations as possible who are involved in production or distribution of
talking or Braille books for persons with print disability.
