This however needs that e-copies of books are made available to them and permits be given to the print disabled community to convert books into accessible formats.
One such format it DAISY – Digitally Accessible Information System. This format enables a totally blind person to read a book on par with their sighted counterpart. However to either access a book or convert it to special formats the print disabled community needs access to e-books.
Within the current Copyright Legislation in India unlike other countries where this right is automatically granted to the print disabled. India whilst the law is being worked at in the current situation we need permission from the copyright holders
As the print disabled community, we therefore urge you to share your titles with the DFI, who would be able to make these available in accessible formats to the print disabled community in India. For any queries that you have in this regard, please read the FAQ here
